Gen Z And Drug Use
Generation Z has quickly become the generation with the highest rates of drug usage and access to drugs in history. From early experimentation to full-blown substance abuse, there is no denying the devastating impact of drugs on this generation.
The illegal use of drugs has long been a problem in the United States, but it seems to be more prevalent among Gen Zers than in previous generations. Teens and young adults in this age group are more likely to engage in risky behaviors like using drugs, which can have profound and long-lasting consequences.
There are numerous physical and mental health issues associated with drug abuse in this age group. Substance misuse can lead to significant declines in physical health, as drugs can damage organ systems and lead to an increased risk of developing chronic conditions such as heart disease and cancer. Mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, are also common in those who abuse drugs, as they are more likely to experience feelings of isolation, hopelessness, and despair.
The impact of drugs on Gen Zers is also seen in their school performance and overall academic achievement. Studies have shown that substance misuse in adolescents can lead to a decline in overall academic performance, which can have an impact on college acceptance rates. Additionally, drug use can put kids and young adults at risk of accidentally injuring themselves or others, both physically and/or psychologically.
The economic effects of drug use also can’t be overlooked. The costs associated with substance misuse are immense.
